(CPV) - The Football Association of Indonesia on August 16 has registered to take part in the 2012 U21 Thanh Nien (Youth) newspaper football tournament for the first time, which will be held in Pleiku City (Central Highland province of Gia Lai) from October 11-21.
This international event previously involved 4 other ASEAN nations namely Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar.
This country of thousands of beautiful and exotic islands will send players who secured third place in Group E of the U22 Asian Football Cup (after Australia and Japan) to compete in preparation for the 28th SEA Games next year.
By beating Vietnam 2-0 in the semi-final match in Jakarta November last year, Indonesian football team is the current runner – up of the SEA Games 2011.
Apart from this upcoming tournament, the Indonesian team has also confirmed its participation in two friendly matches with Vietnam, in Jakarta on September 14 and then in the capital of Hanoi on September 22.
So far, five other foreign teams have registered to compete with the host Vietnam including Iraq, Syria, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
The organizing board is still expected to see the participation of Thailand, bringing the total number of teams to 8 for the first time./.
