    Party General Secretary receives DPRK leader

    Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received the visiting chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), Kim Yong-nam, in Hanoi on August 6.

    Trong described the visit as a contribution to the consolidation and strengthening of the friendship and cooperation between the two Parties, States and nations.

    He reaffirmed Vietnam ’s principle standpoint on the Korean Peninsula issues.

    Kim Yong-nam briefed Trong on the current DPRK situation and congratulated Vietnam on its great achievements during the national construction and development under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

    The two leaders affirmed the importance of and wish for the unceasing consolidation of the friendship and cooperation between the two countries, fostered by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kim Il-sung.

    They agreed on the need to maintain visits by delegations at all levels and seek practical measures to improve the efficiency of bilateral cooperation in all fields.

    The two sides also agreed to strengthen coordination at regional and international forums./.
