- Nine records in the field of Vietnam’s sea and islands were announced by the Vietnam Record Organization and the General Department for Vietnam's Sea and Islands in Ba Ria – Vung Tau on June 2nd on the occasion of Vietnam’s Sea and Islands Days from June 5-8.
The records include Tra Co in Quang Ninh province, the longest beach of the country with the total length of 17 kilometres and the area of over 170 ha; Ha Long Bay, the bay with the greatest number of islands (1,969) on the area of 1,553 square kilometres on the sea; Tam Giang – Cau Hai, the largest lagoon with an area of more than 21,000 ha, 48.2 percent of the total lagoon area in the country; Cat Ba Archipelago, the archipelago with the largest number of islands (367); Truong Sa Archipelago, the largest distance from shore with 243 nautical miles from Cam Ranh; Hon Khoai Islands, Vietnam’s nearest point to the equator; Phu Quoc Island, the largest one with an area of 561 square kilometres; Nam Yet sea reserve, Vietnam’s largest sea reserve with area of over 35,000 ha; and Ly Son Island District, the island district with the largest population density of 1,888 people per square kilometre.
The announcement of Vietnam’s records for the sea and islands recognizes legal sovereignty as well as promotes specific characteristics and products of Vietnam’s sea to domestic people and international friends as well./.
