According to regulations from the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the rankings take into account all performances between May 2, 2011 and April 29, 2012.
Vietnam’s top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh certainly qualifies for the 2012 Olympic Games in London as he is now ranked 11th by BWF.
According to Olympic regulations, to qualify for badminton, any country that has a player in the world’s top 38 can send one to compete in the singles category.
So far, Tien Minh is one of the 12 Vietnamese athletes to qualify for the Games. The other 11 include gymnasts Phan Thi Ha Thanh, Pham Phuoc Hung and Do Thi Ngan Thuong, Le Huynh Chau and Chu Hoang Dieu Linh in taekwondo, Van Ngoc Tu in judo, Hoang Xuan Vinh and Le Thi Hoang Ngoc in shooting, Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc in athletics, Nguyen Thi Lua in wrestling and fencer Nguyen Tien Nhat./.
On May 3, BWF will officially announce 172 badminton players at the Games - 86 from each gender - playing in five events, namely the men's and women's singles and doubles plus the mixed doubles.
Nations can enter a maximum of three players into each singles event, and at most two pairs into each doubles event./.
