     bear stamp set

    (CPV) -
Wildlife At Risk (WAR) on April 1st provided technical support to the Department of Posts and Telecommunications under the Ministry of Information and Communications in publishing a set of bear stamps on the post net throughout Vietnam and abroad.

The bear stamp set includes four stamps, one block and one first-day envelop that cover the two bear species: Moon Bear (Ursus thibetanus) and Sun Bear (Ursus malayanus). The publishing of these stamps aims to raise public awareness on bear and endangered wildlife conservation in Vietnam.

Vietnam has two bear species, Moon Bear and Sun Bear. Both species are listed in the Vietnamese Red Book as Endangered. According to the Department of Forest Management, more than 4000 bears (mostly Moon Bear) have been captured for bile exploitation in Vietnam. This is much higher than bears found in the wild. Being kept in narrow cages for bear bile, the bears cannot reproduce and live a life of misery. Bear bile consumption promotes bear farming and thus is driving bears towards extinction!

“The publishing of bear stamps contribute to bear and endangered wildlife conservation throughout Vietnam. It provides an opportunity for the public to learn about this endangered species. Everyone can join WAR save our bears by not using bear bile and other bear products. WAR encourages people to use alternative products to help protect native wildlife," said Mr. Nguyen Vu Khoi, WAR’s CEO.

On this occasion, WAR also published a set of six postcards titled “Save our bears”./.
