    International opinion praise Vietnam’s renewal achievements and the success of ASEM 5
    Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has praised the success of the recent 5th Asia-Europe Meeting in Hanoi, saying the summit will contribute to further reinforcing co-operation between Asia and Europe, according to a news bulletin from the Thai National Information Department on October 11th.

    Chairman's Statement of ASEM 5
    The fifth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 5) was held in Ha Noi on 8-9 October 2004. The Summit was attended by the Heads of State and Government of thirteen Asian and twenty-five European nations with the Prime Minister of Luxembourg acting also as the President of the European Council, and the President of the European Commission.
    Ha Noi Declaration on Closer ASEM Economic Partnership
    The fifth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 5) approved the Ha Noi Declaration on Closer ASEM Economic Partnership at its closing session in Ha Noi on Saturday. Following is the full text of the Declaration:
    ASEM declaration on Dialogue among Cultures and Civilisations
    1. At the fifth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 5) held in Hanoi, Vietnam from Oct.8-9, 2004, Heads of State and Government of 13 Asian and 25 European nations and the President of the European Commission discussed cultural diversity and national cultures in information technology and globalization process. The declaration reads:

    CPV: After two working day, the 5th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM5) concluded successfully at the International Conference Center in Hanoi on Saturday, adopted three joint declaration on political, economic and cultural cooperation.

    President Tran Duc Luong and his wife hosted a gala dinner to welcome head delegates to the 5th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM 5) at the Melia Hotel in Ha Noi on Friday night.

    Mr. Junichiro Koizumi, Prime Minister of Japan: “I would like to express my appreciation to the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Phan Van Khai, and his staff for their thorough preparations to ensure the success of this summit.
    At this Summit, ten European countries and three Asian countries have newly joined ASEM. Their participation has made ASEM a framework for a dialogue and Co-operation between ASEAN+3, which is in the centre of the dynamism I mentioned earlier, and the EU, which continues to develop vigorously after its enlargement.
